Pistes Solidaires is looking for a motivated volunteer eager to engage in a diverse range of social, educational, and communication activities, contributing to youth inclusion, community development, and intercultural exchange in rural Portugal.
THE HOST ORGANISATION
Associação Juvenil de Deão (AJD), founded in 1997 and based in Viana Do Castelo, Portugal, works for social inclusion, equality, civic engagement, and youth development, especially in rural areas. AJD offers educational, cultural, sports, and artistic activities, promoting youth participation, intergenerational solidarity, and combating discrimination.
The association operates through three main sectors:
– Social intervention projects implementing local and European initiatives;
– A community school hosting children and youth for educational, creative, and intercultural activities;
– A communication and image department promoting the association’s actions through written, visual, and digital media.
AJD is accredited to host volunteers within the European Solidarity Corps and is part of several regional and national youth and social development networks.
ACTIVITIES OF THE VOLUNTEER
The volunteer will engage in a broad range of activities tailored to their skills and interests, including:
Leading educational and creative activities with children and youth such as homework help, artistic workshops, games, and environmental awareness;
Contributing to the community garden’s development and creating a sustainable outdoor space;
Participating in the association’s newsletter writing and animating the blog, social media, and other communication tools;
Supporting teams in organising projects, events, and partner meetings;
Offering informal language workshops for various audiences;
Occasionally facilitating workshops in partner schools or social centres for children, youth, or elderly people;
Promoting the European Solidarity Corps and mobility programmes;
Developing a personal project if desired.
