STOP

Raise awareness and train organizations to fight against child prostitution.

Project period: December 2022 – May 2025
Coordinator: Pistes Solidaires (France)
Partners of the project: CESIE (Italy),  Four Elements (Greece), MEITIS (France), Université du Pays Basque (Spain)

The context:

Prostitution is no longer a crime in France. Except before the age of 18. Yet, never once has a judge, a police officer, a psychologist, or even an educator thought to tell Nina this simple sentence: ‘Child prostitution is illegal in France.’ Never.” This is what Thierry Delcroix, father of a minor who was prostituted for over a year, explains in Papa vient me chercher (2020).

The lack of prevention, support, and guidance from social workers in Nina and the Delcroix family’s situation is due to the absence of any training on the topic of child prostitution.

Prostitution is no longer a crime in France. Except before the age of 18.

Child prostitution affected between 7,000 and 15,000 young people in France in 2022, increasing by 682% in six years, yet it seems not to exist.

No one talks about it, no research is done on the subject, and professionals are not trained to fight against a phenomenon that affects young people across France, in all social and economic groups.

The objectives:

The STOP project – Sensitize and Train Organisations to fight against the Prostitution of minors – aims to provide tools to professionals working with youth and in social work to combat this phenomenon.

It is developed in 3 stages:

INFORM: Develop a simple, accurate, and comprehensive information resource to inform professionals and break the taboos surrounding this issue. Dare to talk about it.

UNDERSTAND: Create ready-to-use prevention, awareness, and training modules for social workers and youth workers.

ACT: Train social work professionals to prevent child prostitution. Train professionals to support young people involved in prostitution. Share information through the creation of an information platform on the subject.

The European STOP project aims to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to fight against this stagnation.

It will enable:

– The exchange of information between European professionals to improve understanding of the phenomenon.

– The development of training and prevention content for social work professionals to intervene with minors involved in prostitution.

– The creation of a multilingual European platform, bringing together information, resources, and studies from different European countries in this field.
